For My Papa

                                                     High Flight (by John Magee)

“Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds –
and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of –
wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence.
Hovering there I’ve chased the shouting wind along
and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

“Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,
where never lark, or even eagle, flew;
and, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
the high untrespassed sanctity of space,
put out my hand and touched the face of God.”

One last flight for my Papa, Harry F. Schacherbauer, who passed this morning.

  1. Oh girl! I know your heart is hurting. Your Momma’s too! We’ll say big prayers for yall over here. I hope this brings your Mom and your “Papa” peace.

  2. Hugs & prayers to you and your family. May God wrap His loving arms around you in comfort and support at this difficult time. I’m so sorry to hear this. I wish I could reach through the computer and give you a great big hug! My Mother-In-Law passed away a week ago today, I know what you are going through.

  3. Sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. I have walked in your shoes. Your family is in my prayers especially your mom.

  4. So sorry for the loss of your Papa, mine passed away in October and even though he had lived a wonderful, long life it was still a really huge loss for us. I hope you and your mom have lots of great memories to comfort you.
